A BRIEF COMPANY HISTORY

In its third generation of a family business Lonsdales has been on its present site for about 50 years. The company originated elsewhere in Walsall as W A Lonsdale & Son and has been a limited company under its present name since 1974.

Early days saw Lonsdales purchasing large volumes of rags and woollens as well as scrap metals.  Today the original cart has gone and our transport facilities have grown a little (see Transport page)

AT LONSDALES TODAY

At the Green Lane site we receive all grades of non-ferrous metal from a variety of sources - factory outlets, other merchants, demolishers, plumbers etc. We are able to handle any weight of metal - we have a public weighbridge and scales for smaller amounts. Our site licence enables us to purchase scrap lead acid batteries and we have the necessary Hazardous Waste Registration, our number is NAI139.  We provide consignment notes and advice about current legislation regarding scrap lead acid battery recycling and other hazardous material.

The site has a Waste Permit Licence issued by the Environment Agency - EAWML42242 and we also have a Carriers Licence CB/UN5875WX. We can offer a first rate collection service, using our own transport. We issue our customers with skips, bins or hook bins and we provide all relevant paperwork including a 'season ticket' issued annually to customers showing all our current licence details. Waste transfer notes issued for each collection and an annual season ticket provide each customer with their recycling paper trail.

We collect a wide variety of metals from many different factories. We appreciate that every factory has individual requirements and try to meet these.

L & J Lonsdale Ltd has a Quality and Environmental Management System accredited to ISO 9001:2008 and ISO 14001:2004.
